While every birth is special, this one will always hold a very special place in my heart. Valarie & Myke had been one of my very first portrait clients when I started my business, so it was only fitting that the birth of their sweet daughter, Mykenzie, should be my very first birth to photograph.
Valarie had told me that she wanted this birth to be a natural birth, but that her labor and deliveries were extremely fast. After the birth of Mykenzie, I think fast might have been an understatement. I arrived at 10pm after Valarie’s water had broke and she was going to sit in the tub to help get her through the majority of her labor. After about 45 minutes of laboring, she felt it was time to get out and head back to her room before her labor became too intense. After she got settled back into the room we found out that she was 9cm dilated. Thankfully her doctor was well aware of her quick deliveries and was just across the hall. In the 15 minutes it took for him to head over Valarie was at 10cm and more than ready to push. What felt like hours to her was only three pushes before the most perfect little girl entered this world with the most beautiful hair you have ever seen. Mykenzie Jean Masson was here. Watch her birth story below.
